Recovery from Opioid Addiction
This workbook reviews symptoms, causes, effects and treatment (psychosocial and medications) of addiction to heroin or prescription opioids (oxycontin, percoset, etc). It reviews the recovery process and strategies to manage the many challenges of recovery from opioid addiction. This workbook helps the reader examine other addictions and co-occurring psychiatric disorders as well. The reader can learn strategies to manage drug cravings, pain and emotions, understand addiction and the family, develop a support system and use 12-step programs. Sections specific on managing people, places and things, and relapse prevention are also included. This can be used with clients on replacement therapy (methadone or buprenorphine). It encourages the reader to engage in a long-term recovery process to reduce relapse risk.
